STAYCATION
We finally made it! July 2026 – to experience a staycation at a repurposed bus hotel. Many thanks to Phillip Raj, The Bus Collective creator.
Applying Bilberries Blue ROSEHut Methodology, we examined 5 Pillars of Sustainable Rural-Urban Development. The process allows one to pair the site with other BBRH sites to build a socio-spatial connection, apply the lens of village development to study what works, and create an inclusive joyful living, right here and now.
1. Stewardship of Dignity
I am beginning to understand that stewardship is a determination.
One’s agency. It’s the drive.
It’s the vision.
2. Geosphere-Biosphere-Biodiversity
Changi Beach Park
On the first day, we jumped into sea at Changi Beach.
And the next day, we found a nice spot at the mouth of Changi River. Watching bumboats go by. And then we jumped into the sea again.
Don’t wait. Jump into life. Soak in and into the essence of life, thoroughly.
It’s the total immersion with nature that finally cracks open the intimacy and deep relaxation, within. And then, the ineffable joy.
3. Pesticide-Free Food
This trip we didn’t get time to explore the Community Urban Farm. We have conducted Soils for Survival with The Kind Grower’s Community Urban Farms in November 2025. We will definitely circle back with composting and irrigation systems that we are starting to implement at BB ROSEHut @ City Sprouts West Coast.
4. Birth-to-Lifelong Full Inclusion
Changi Village
We took a remarkable walk looking at the shops, discovering the history of Changi Village and of course, we loved the Changi Hawker Centre. I ask myself, what makes a village? It’s really people who have lived in the place for decades. They know everything about the place. Everything. That’s when I know – it isn’t so much about the curation of knowledge and attractions, but the simple security and warmth of those who host the hospitality for the traveller to feel at home.
5. Culture of School of Life
Keith suggested to The Bus Collective crew that we can perform street theatre the next time! Phantom of the Opera, anyone?
