What is Renewable Energy?

Dr. Iswadi Jauhari, Founder & CEO, Xcess Pressure Sdn. Bhd.
Senior Lecturer, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Malaya
Dr. Iswadi Jauhari is a Malaysian engineer, innovator, and academic recognized for pioneering the development of in-pipe hydropower technology—a sustainable solution that converts excess water pressure in existing water infrastructure into clean, renewable electricity.
He earned his Doctor of Engineering from Ehime University, Japan, where he also completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering. His early research in materials engineering, failure analysis, and energy systems formed the foundation for his later work in renewable energy innovation.
As a lecturer at Universiti Malaya since 1997, Dr. Iswadi has contributed significantly to engineering education and applied research, combining academic insight with real-world impact. His passion for translating research into societal benefit led to the founding of Xcess Pressure Sdn. Bhd. in 2021—a clean-tech startup that commercializes the Super Butterfly In-Pipe Hydropower System, an invention developed under collaborative patents with Universiti Malaya.
Under his leadership, the company has secured multiple national research grants, including major funding from MOSTI and AAIBE, and has gained recognition through awards such as the Malaysia Technology Expo (Gold Award, 2021), Climate LaunchPad Malaysia (2nd Place, 2020), and SinoSwiss Business Incubation Competition (Finalist, 2023).
Dr. Iswadi has co-authored several international journal publications and holds three intellectual property rights (2019, 2022, 2024), representing Malaysia’s pioneering efforts in smart water-energy systems. Through Xcess Pressure, he aims to demonstrate how local innovation can transform a common engineering problem—wasted hydraulic pressure—into a profitable and sustainable energy opportunity.
Beyond engineering, Dr. Iswadi is driven by the belief that technology should serve both people and the planet. His vision is to position Malaysian innovation as a benchmark for sustainable water and energy solutions globally.

Mr Adrian Lasimbang
