Dr Wan Mohd Shukri Wan Ahmad is the Director of the Forest Biodiversity Division at the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM). With extensive expertise in forest management and forest inventory, he has dedicated his career to advancing sustainable forest practices and the conservation of biodiversity within tropical forest ecosystems.
Dr Wan Mohd Shukri holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Forest Management from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), and earned his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Environmental Science from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Over the course of his distinguished career, he has contributed to more than 50 research and consultancy projects, both nationally and internationally, addressing critical issues in forest resources assessment, management planning, and ecological monitoring.
An active researcher and author, Dr Wan Mohd Shukri has published over 80 scientific papers, including peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, reflecting his commitment to knowledge generation and dissemination in the field of forestry and environmental science. His work continues to play a key role in shaping research priorities and informing policies on sustainable forest management in Malaysia and beyond.

What is Central Forest Spine (CFS)?






Mohammad Shahfiz Bin Azman, Head of Zoology Branch, FRIM
Mr. Mohammad Shahfiz Azman is a research officer at FRIM and currently serves as the Head of the Zoology Branch. He has been with FRIM since 2007. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Animal Resource Science and Management from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and a Master’s degree in Biological Conservation from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). His research interests focus on vertebrates, particularly mammals and avifauna, within the field of ecology. Throughout his service, he has published approximately more than 50 works in various formats.
His main interests are small vertebrates and landscape ecology. At present, much of his research focuses on several key initiatives, namely Environmentally Sensitive Areas (ESA), the Central Forest Spine (CFS), and Key Biodiversity Areas (KBA).
Mr. Shahfiz’s involvement in research focused on the ecology of small vertebrates makes the studies conducted by him and his team highly relevant and significant for ensuring the long-term survival of vertebrate communities. He is also responsible for ensuring that forest ecosystems across the country remain connected and function effectively.
